Looking for live rock as well as advice

I just set up my first saltwater tank last weekend. All I have in it now is sand. I need to add some rock and wait to add fish is what I have been told. Does anyone know if certain rock is better than others, where I can get this rock fairly cheap, and how much rock I should start with for a 29 gallon tank?

My personal opinion is find a place that sells cheap dry base rock and use that for your tank. Then get a small piece of live rock or a little bit of sand from a local reefer or store from an established system to seed your aquarium. It's much cheaper and less hassle in my experience. Less chance of pests and die off of organisms and such. I would say use as much rock as you need to make a nice aquascape that you like.

I agree with Fish Lipz. Unless you can find an awesome deal on live rock, I would not spend that kind of money. Also, you have to beware of all the hitchhikers good and especially bad that will be on the live rock.

Welcome to R2R!

You have plenty of local reef hobbyists close that may be able to turn you on to someone local. As others have said I would lean towards dry rock that you can seed. When you look for rock look for LIGHT and POROUS rock that will take up space and be your foundation but will not be extremely heavy. You can seed that with one piece of actual live rock or with live sand from a fellow reefer.

Craigslist is the best place I've found a ton of rock live and base. I've got a ton off of there for a great deals.

Thanks for everyones help and welcoming me. As for craigslist, I was actaully given a link to this site from a guy named Jay on craigslist. I'm going to try and find dry rock and go from there. Thanks again.
