I just got a clam from an online dealer - it was one of those our picks... based on the ad, I thought there would be more color or pattern to it. What do you think the color is of this clam? Is it strange that one side has very little eyes? Would you keep it it or trade it at the LFS for more colorful clam? Thank you.

Kinda personal opinion. If you like it then keep it. Everyone will have a different opinion, some don't like the blues and prefer green or orange. Did that come from reefbeauties by chance?

Definitely very subjective... but this one is just very disappointing... no color that is a wow factor and no pattern that is a wow factor either. It is not gold and not green... just an olive/brown color. I am not sure if my LFS will even take it to be honest. I got this one from PEA.

Understood. Well depending on how they were advised matters, and may be ground for some kind of refund. Reason I asked is I received a beautiful blue Maxima from reefbeauties 2 weeks ago during a father's day sale. Clam is about 6-7 inches, very happy with it. This was not wysiwyg.

Lighting will play a factor. Appears this one is to be bluish green

Yeah - I thought it was very misleading. In all fairness, they did not offer a refund but they would send me another one on my next order... what I found out was the WYSIWYG is a separate pool of clams.... they have this hidden group of clams for their pick. I am so disappointed in what I got vs what they advertised that I doubt I will order from them ever again... so much for that replacement clam. Lesson learned I guess... I just feel like such a sucker.

No blue in the clam at all. The edge does have a bit of green... it is just a drab, olive/brown color. I have hydras so i tried all color combos from full on every color to blues.

Yeah definitely there is a price difference in wysiwyg. For their defense in clam culturing the vast majority of clams in a spawning are the ugly ones.

No agree... they said clams come in all colors and patterns... but why list it as a discount price of their other clams (reg $99 to $159 which is their wysiwyg price) and worse yet, why pick pictures of ultra clams that are not representative of the clam you actually get. In their defense, they offered to send a replacement clam on my next order which I appreciate, but I just don't trust the clams in this second pool of clams and I do not want to order from them again as I find this highly misleading.

Regardless, this was not meant to be about PEA - it is what it is. I was actually trying to get opinions on the clam. I have searched gold, green, olive clams and cannot find a clam this drab anywhere.... hence why I was asking for opinions.

Enjoy the animal, your over here like color this color that. I'd be more worried about how much Cal that son of a gun is gonna duck up. Either way it's a very nice maxima you should feel better about to. Learn to like it's dull contrive looks. To me honestly it's not what was advertised . But still a great looking clam. Just saying.

Haha - good point but the dull contrive look was already taken by my gigas clam - had him for almost 7 months (now he is a Cal hog). I never expect a maxima clam to give my gigas a run for its money as the ugliest clam in my tank. ;)

I love gold maximas. If you have some good lighting that thing will shine and glow like true 24 Karat. The green rim is really nice too.

I am always amazed at people who want to save money and not do WYSIWG and then want to nit pick what they got. Spend the extra money if you want to know what you are getting.

@jda What color spectrum would you recommend or consider good lighting?

For the record, I also bought a WYSIWYG so no problem spending the money (dropped a good chunk of money on clams, frags, scoly, etc). I just thought it would be interesting to give it a shot as well. However, I think it is fair to nick pick the way it is advertised... I guess "similar to those pictured" is subject to interpretation. ;)

We offered a replacement at no charge for the clam you were not satisfied with and hadn't heard back from you if that was acceptable. We have now issued you a full refund for the "Our Pick" Clam. Our goal is for all of our customers to feel confident that we stand behind our products. Even though the description in the "Our Pick" Clam offer said that colors would vary, we have changed the photo to include more diverse variations. We are very sorry you were disappointed and hope you would reconsider trying us out again. My apologies for any inconvenience or misunderstanding.
