I'm approaching my 4th week on the cycle of my 90 gallon, and I'm looking at adding a starter clean up crew.
Everything's going as planned, I just don't want to buy something that has such a big appetite that it will starve from lack of -fill in the blank-.
My sand bed is 2.5" deep, good amount of live rock as well. I also now have diatoms on my sand and some rock, along with a patch or two of brown hair algae and medusa stage hydroids on my glass (these seem to be diminishing though).
I was going to buy some cerith, a few hermits and a fighting conch.
My LFS says they don't like selling the conch because "they die too fast and mess up the sand"... I'm not sure what he's talking about, when I asked why they would die so fast and what messing up the sand meant he said the nitrates would shoot through the roof when it died.
In my 30g, if something dies it doesn't last more than 90 seconds due to my bumble bee snails and naussarius snails (vicious little guys). Also, in this hobby things die - it's unavoidable, but a Lfs telling me something will die too fast without a clear explaination makes me think his snails just aren't healthy. Maybe he meant because my system isn't established? I would be willing to supplement feed anything I purchase until it is by the way..
So I'm looking for opinions on what people would put into their tanks, in a non established, but cycled system.
Emerald crabs, shrimp, hermits, stars, snails, etc.

Future home (don't mind the oberti bag and the messed up background. The bags blocking the light at night for my aquafuge so it doesn't light up my tank until I have time to construct something better).
