If anyone has ever seen any post I've posted, which isn't many, but I've complained about plumbing. I hate doing plumbing. I'd probably prefer hot pokers to the eyes but here I am, again, dealing with plumbing. I got a used 90g. Corner-flo marineland tank and stand that I need to deal with. The overflow has two holes. Traditionally one is for the return and one to the sump. BUT. I don't like that I don't have a real emergency drain. I was wondering what can/should I do to be able to change it? I've seen some videos on switching the dorsal to a Herbie but with one overflow box my brain can't seem to figure out the best method to do the return. HELP...

Probably the easiest and least expensive option would be to use the two holes as drain and run your return up and over the edge of the tank.

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I did think about that. I'm just trying to envision how it should look. I want a clean look. I have the side of the tank the drain is on near a wall. I have displayed the tank so people can see the tank from the other three sides. I may need to do the PVC sprayed black so it looks seamless.

You could go Herbie, but the Durso will work just fine. I would make one the drain and the other a emergency drain. Bring the return over the top.

I did what you are wanting to do... turned a durso system into a herbie design and brought a return up the back and over the rim. The return line really isn't very noticeable... and i also spray painted mine black to hide it even further. The drain on the herbie is dead quiet.

As you can see from the pic, my ugly light cords are more noticeable than the return over the rim:

thank you all for the help and those pictures helped tremendously. I can better envision. I shall check where the tank is sitting, when I get home lol, to figure out the best place where it won't be seen.
