I'm thinking of getting an ATB Flowstar 1500 or a Super Reef Octopus bubble blaster 7000 for my 180 build. Great flow rates and efficient too. The ATB are proven performers and the SROs are getting really good reviews too.

+1
Depending on what kind of flow you want. I was set on the Flowstar but decided I wanted more flow from an in sump pump and didn't want to go external so I am getting a Laguna Max-Flo either 2900 or 4200 and putting a manifold on it to also run my pellet reactor and any other reactors/filters/fuges I will run.

good input i guess i should of said internal or external and if i wanted to run other things off it.

i would surely like to run everything off the pump.

If you want to run more off the pump, both the ATB and BB have higher output models available.

If you're thinking of an external pump I'd go with a reeflo. They are very quiet and reliable plus they created almost no heat! I run a reeflo dart and love it.

I was going to use the Flowstar in sump also. You can't beat the Laguna for the amount of watts they use with the high flow and also the cost. These are the pumps they use for the Red Dragons. I am seriously looking at the 4200 with 4200 gph at 160W max for only about $225 online.

Welcome to Laguna - Max-Flo Solids Handling Waterfall & Filter Pumps

im also thinking of putting a 40gallon frag tank, but im not sure yet. im really looking at reeflo.

I run a atb flowstar on my 60 gallon cube but also have a manifold split in 3 for external skimmer, return , and one for media reactor Great pump. Running a Dart On my 180 gallon also great pump.

i went external with a pond version of the reeflo with the output of 4600gph and i am running everything from the single pump. I am supplying 2 - 1" returns, fuge, oceanclear filter, a manifold with 3 outputs, and my dual beckett skimmer. Very quite and efficient! best part is i dont need a chiller. here is a picture for viewing pleasure:
