Hi there,
I'm using an avast porthole to take topdowns with my DSLR but find that even with image stabilization on I'm not getting the focus I want to achieve because of the shakes. Has anyone seen a small rig that could clamp to the top edge of the tank?

Thinking about something like this:

That's what you want. I have the one by manfrotto. I would be concerned about the stress on the glass though. a thick acrylic sheet laid over the tank might work better. Also an Offset for a tripod would be best. basically a piece of metal with holes in it. OR attach that magic arm to the tripod
This is full Pro hollywood for BIG cameras. http://www.jlfisher.com/dollies/rental_packages/9-accessories/th.html
This is an Slr version. http://www.pdf-manuals.com/wooden-camera-universal-offset-bracket-wc-199700-329903-manual

Id have to guess your using a low shutter speed and open aperture is its effecting it that much. You don't have any ASA left to push?

I'm shooting in aperature priority on the lowest setting.

By increasing ASA(sensitivity) is will give you more shutter speed or aperture.
In aperture priority it can let you use a very high f stop but you lose shutter speed. By increasing asa in AP it will give you more shutterspeed.

Not all cameras are created equeal BTW, at some point you'll get grain. On my Nikon 7000 that's about 1600 asa.

Thanks for the tip. I usually have ISO on auto, but I'll try tweaking.

Im a manual guy. I generally start in AP look at it and see what its doing, then go manual and adjust.
