Looking for Skimmer Recommendations

Anything DC would be good. Heard good things about Simplicity skimmers if you have a tight budget, otherwise the NYOS is supposed to be super quiet.

Have you tried a rubber mat between skimmer and or motor and the sump floor?
If that doesn't work I can recommend the Reef Octopus Elite line and the Royal Exclusiv Supermarin 160. No issues with either and they are quiet.

I have the Octo Classic 150 INT and it's perfectly quit. My stand is open. Mine will get noisy which means the pump needs to be cleaned. Do a citric acid powder water bath for the pump or buy a new DC pump. Did you buy a used unit or was this new?

It’s new. The noise is coming from the silencer, it’s like a low hum. Whooshing air may be a better way to describe it.

After two hours I take the pump apart and cleaned the inside and impeller with a toothbrush

My NYOS is very quiet, I have ran the 160 and now upgraded to the 220, both quiet.

+1 on NYOS. Expensive but quiet. Have had 120, 160 and 220 on different tanks over the last 4 years.

Deltec or Bubble King! If price is no object, then Bubble King. That being said, I did love my Deltec before I removed it for the Bubble King. I'm not sure WHY I bought the Bubble King as the DELTEC was really great. Just wanting a new toy I guess. The Deltec has some OUTSTANDING features others do not have. It will NOT OVERFLOW! It's easy to take apart and parts are available!

Why is nobody telling OP to try to figure out why his/her skimmer is making a humming sound?

Reef octopus is known for their quality. IMO, everything else would be a downgrade. But that’s my opinion.

OP, these octupus skimmers should be silent. Try to call customer service and ask what could be causing the humming.

Hi! I’m currently using an Octo Classic 200 INT which works great! But the loud humming sound it makes drives me absolutely crazy! Any skimmers out there you recommend that are actually quiet?

So many different skimmer recommendations. Lol.
Detect used to be strictly german I think. We talked about em and how they were top of the line but no one had one. Lol.
Glad they are more around these days.
