Hello all,

Wasn't sure where exactly to post this, or what exactly to search for on the site, so my apologies if this is has already been discussed somewhere, and I'll gladly review any relevant posts if someone can point me in the direction. But anyway, here's what I'm dealing with on my 90g mixed reef tank.

Can someone please help me to figure out what this green/reddish algae is, and should I be worried?

Its most likely high phosphates and nitrates or the redfeild ratio is off. Some algae on the glass is normal though I clean mines off twice a week. What is your light schedule?

Light schedule is 12 hours on a timer, T5HO (2x10K, 1xCoral+, 1xBlue+), Current USA Loop Light set to 100% white, 100% Blue, same 12h schedule as T5 lights, Simplicity 240 skimmer also attached to the same 12 hour timer).

Nitrates - 20ppm (API)
Phosphates - 0.25ppm (API)
3x Korilla 800gph powerheads
Tank has been up and running since January.

The rest of the params are in my Meet and Greet post (sorry, not trying to be rude, just don't want to type it out again).

I understand typing up parameters is a nuisance[emoji23]wow yeah theres your problem nitrates and phosphates running really high. Try bringing lights down to 10 hours. Are you feeding a lot or just have a heavy bioload?

Id scrub it away and do a series of heavy water changes close together like every other day until phos are under 0.08
This is all normal for someone who is not exporting enough nutrients i suggest you do some readung and figure a good routine maintenance schedule to keep nutrients down water changes is where id start and make sure you use rodi water good luck

Yes Phosphates are a bit high, I would do a couple of bigger water changes over the next couple of weeks and keep testing to see where you are at. Be careful not to strip the water column of nutrients to quickly. Algae growth on glass is gonna happen no matter what. Just keep up with the mag float algae scrubber every few days or so.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think I may have figured out some possible issues that helped cause the outbreak to begin with. Ranging from I found two large dead snails in the chamber with my return pumps that appear to have been ripped apart by suction that I wasn't aware of. Not sure how long they had been dead but the damage to their bodies looked relatively fresh and recent, to a minor air flow blockage in my air silencer in my skimmer that caused the rate of skimming to slow way down. I know I don't overfeed my tank considering I feed a single frozen cube of mysis shrimp twice a week and all my coral foods are broadcast fed once a week (basically a M,W,F feeding schedule, no food on the weekends). Going to continue to monitor after the corrections have been made and see how it turns out.
