looking for suggestions on powerheads for the 120g

just setting up the 120g and it's still going thru cycling now.
I am looking for some suggestions on powerhead for this 120g.

I am currently using the MP40wes on my temporary tank now but do not like it, I do not like the dry side sticking out on the side of the tank.

I will be doing 99.9% sps (.1% is for aptaisia I guess).

Im using a MP40 and MP10 and my tank is mostly SPS dominated. I want to put in 2 Korleia 1400s on the back wall for more flow. I dont think the Ecotechs are the greatest since theres no way to point them to the rocks since most of my scape is near the back wall.

You dont like the fact the the electrical side of the pump is not submerged in the water? That is one of the best options to the MP40's IMO.

But if you dont like the Mp40s you should look into Tunze pumps.

nice looking tank. the corner overflow looks much better on the 120g than the two center ones

Jebao wp40 and wp60 are awesome and don't break the bank

I would go with the ecotech marine vortech mp40w x2 theyre the best pumps by far that i have used and with the ability to link them wirelessly and have them run in the same or opposite programs is great for flow. The pumps also clean up your DT by keeping the cords outside the tank. And with up to 3200 gph on hand there really is no question

The conflict here is the "99.9 SPS" and the "closer to fine sand" substrate. You'll need 40X to 50X flow for an SPS tank, and if you have sugar fine sand that may be too much.

Anyhow, if your substrate can handle it, multiple Koralia powerheads would be what I would recommend. You can orient the flows so that they cross each other, resulting in the chaotic random flow that SPS love. I have an SPS dominated 150 gallon tank, and I have four 1500gph koralia evos plus 1500gph return via 4 nozzles, for a total flow of 7,500 gph or 50X DT volume. Rather than describe placement, it's much easier to just post a photo of how I have mine set-up. HTH!!

I have had 3 koralia powerheads and all 3 failed IMHO theyre junk and not worth the money. I have sugar fine sand in my tank and with the MP40s at full speed my sand doesnt blow around plus you cant beet the under tow

I would also like to add that when i had issues with my koralia it took over month worth of emails with there HQ in California to get it resolved. Save your money and only buy once. When you have the EcoTech Vortechs in your hands you will know you made the right choice i know i did. Plus if it matters to you they are made in The USA

I have no doubts you've had problems, but my 4 koralias have been running continuously for over 3 years. I've has such great success with them, I bought two more, two 750gph for my other tank, a 110 gallon FOWLR, and they have been running flawlessly for 6 months. Very quiet, I might add, with no noise whatsoever. I take one powerhead down every 3 months of an overnight soak in dilute vinegar, and rotate them. No issues whatsoever. Plus, you can't beat the price. I can buy several koralias for one vortech. If you have sugarfine sand substrate and it is not getting disturbed, then you likely do not have enough flow for an SPS tank. At 50X DT volume for flow, even my medium grain substrate wiggles a little.

Too cool to sell not just a one trick pony. Random flow, night modes and everything can be adjusted to meet your tanks needs. They upgrade with you.

he already has mp40s and does not like them...reread the first post...not everyones cup of tea i guess.

OP: Tunze makes great powerheads. I think they are what you are looking for.

I have a 120 BB.If you like sand try Tropic Eden flakes and miniflakes just my 2 cent's Tunze look wp25's 2 or 4 them.

A couple of WP-25's would be great in a system like that. I have two in a 60" 100G mixed reef and am very happy with them. They replaced two Evo 1400's on a RKL switching every 30 seconds which I was very happy with also.
