Looking for the right flow in new frag tank

Hey guys... I’m setting up a new frag tank 48x23x8
It’s going to be predominantly sps and I’m looking for proper flow. I was thinking about a gyre to have nice even flow across the tank but I’m not sure if 1. A gyre will be too powerful for such a shallow tank 2. How many gph I actually need. Let me know what you think my best options would be! Thanks!

Nice looking frag tank system!

It kind of depends on the minimum flow rate of the gyre. Set it at the right end and have it cycle in both directions and you should be OK. I think sps corals prefer a bit more flow that other corals.

I have the largest original maxspec gyre on my lowboy. It isn't too much flow for me

I run a Red Sea 45 gyre and it is amazing, I actually run it at 30% for a max setting and decreases to 10% as I have a smaller tank. I previously ran 3 powerheads and this thing does a much better job. My Gyre extends nearly 60% of the tanks width (set on right side flowing to the left), so there is about 3-4 inches on each side that is "exposed" but due to direction of flow and the intensity there isnt a single spot missed. With that said larger tanks may still require powerheads in hard to reach spots. Keep in mind im at 30% max flow rate and have much more room to grow.
