Hi everyone,
i currently have a 120 gal reef setup with 6 fish:
yellow tang
blue tang
potters angel
mandarin
and two clown.
i am looking to add some fish that keep the tank "live/moving". Most of the time my tangs are the only fish zipping around. i wanted to add some fish that are small in size and will provide that missing feature. i was thinking about 3 chromis or anthias. i like dart fish but not a fan of jumpers.
any suggestions?

i have never been a big fan of wrasses. i have heard some horror stories about 6 lines and i dont really have the appropriate substrate for the borrowing types of wrasses. i do like that they eat pests though.

i like anthias, but not the price tag. they are def in the running, but wish i could find a nice trio for under $50 (which is unlikely).

any thoughts on a trio of chromis? will they fight each other or my other tankmates?

chromis will probably kill each other off over time. i used to have 5 now i have just 1. im in the same boat looking for new fish but i do love wrasses. big selection lots of color.

Look into a flasher wrasse. My mccoskers is by far the most exciting fish I have. It is always swimming in and out and flashing and very peaceful. My clowns actually accepted it and let it near their hosting area. Meanwhile if my hand goes in the tank my clowns attack me lol.

I actually dont like my chromis'. They hog food like crazy and also arent flashy. My tangs are the best fish i have (1 purple and 2 hippos). Flame angels look nice and well as my royal gramma (very funny personality). Also a cleaner wrasse wouldnt be a bad choice either since it gets along with all fish pretty much and they keep them nice and clean :)

Any fish can jump, but dartfish and wrasses are certainly more prone.

Flasher and fairy wrasses don't need sand and are very active.

Anthias need multiple feedings a day. But stocky anthias are pretty hardy.

Add too the list of jumpers Jawfish.

McCosker's Flasher Wrasse or Carpenter's are great wrasses. They are super peaceful and very active all the time.. They dont do well with allot of aggressive fish. they are also jumpers.

A school of ignitus anthias would be awsume in a 120. They shoal more than any other anthias except Dispar which are similar. They are hardy and easy to get to eat. Hard to get on pellets or flake though and need lots of feedings.

thanks for all the input. I am going to wait a few more weeks and then look at getting a trio of anthias. i am glad i checked here prior to buying a trio of chromis. that would have sucked.

the 6 line wrasse is one of the most active fish i have everyone love to come watch him. other then eating my peppermint shrimp. he gets along with my damsel and blenny just fine also dosnt bother my scarlet shrimp.

Well.... after a month in QT i finally added my last two fish to the tank. And i have to admit, i was wrong. I ended up getting two fairy wrasses. A yellow fin fairy and a lubbocks fairy. About a month ago, when i was stopping by my LFS, i saw them in the same tank and said "what are these?". i pulled up the compatibility chart and said "i'll take em". they are awesome looking. Since putting them into my main display, i am noticing a couple of spots on the yellow fin. hopefully, it clears up because there is no chance i am catching it now for treatment.
