Hi guys, I've been doing a lot of research and I'm very new to this wonderful hobby, I'm looking to get my first aquarium so I've decided that I want to get a 120g RR tank 48x24x24 maybe with one or two overflows any recommendations? What type of led lighting would I need? I definitely would want a lighting system with a timer so I don't have to manually adjust all the time. Would a 400watt heater be sufficient enough? Also what size sump should I run on this 120g tank? Looking to have a refugium. I want to basically start with live sand and dry pukani rock, then slowly add some soft corals and some fish. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Depending on what you want to do with your aquarium, a nice light is the Orbit Marine LED, it's fairly affordable and I love mine. It's got a programable on and off time, plus ramp up and down, and moonlight features.

As for the tank. I started with a 55G and wish I had gone bigger. I love my tank now though.

I know i originally wanted a 29g but i decided to just jump up to a 120g and not have to worry about upgrading for years down the line

Welcome to the addiction. I too started about a year ago with a 120g (48x24x24) and love it. I think it makes the perfect starter tank. Allows a little forgiveness with stability as you get going and it's large enough to keep you from wanting to upgrade right away. The best advise I can give you is to continue to do a lot of research and do not rush in to anything, including the purchase of lights or other equipment.

You will quickly discover if you direct one question to 10 people, you will get 12 answers, so you just have to keep researching and select based on your studies and reviews. Take your time and make educated decisions, as sometimes the best deals are often not the best options.
