Hey everyone,
So my wife and I are looking to upgrade tanks. Currently we have a Deep Blue 75 Rimless (which was bought in an emergency) (48x18x20) with an Eshopps RS200 sump, Mag 9.5 return, NAC6 skimmer, two AI Sol Super Blues and two MP10w's. We like the dimensions of the tank as far as length and height, but would like more depth front to back. Ideally what we hope to do is something like 48x30x20 -ish , possibly 36" front to back, which would be around 125 gallons (or 150 @ 36") and allow us to retain the sump, skimmer and return that we already have and be effective for an SPS tank. Glass or Acrylic?? I've never had an acrylic tank, so it scares me when I hear about how easy it scratches. But at the same time, the idea with the depth is to use just the rock that is in the 75, keep it pretty much centered in the tank and having essentially 4" to 6" of empty space from the aquascape to the walls, so acrylic may be an option. And with the AI 2'x2' spread, we are hoping that we might not have to wipe the glass as much. (Wishful thinking?) We want to keep this project under $2000 with tank/stand/flow and a possible third AI unit, but the light could come later. I've written before about suggestions on a larger system, Reef Savvy being the ultimate winner for a custom tank, but the budget is blown on just the tank from them. I don't mind doing a DIY stand as it would be a great project and also get what I want, it's just the tank...... Any ideas or suggestions?? :nerd:

i personally would go with glass easier to clean and over time acrylic can get aged and get hazey. as far as the tank goes if you have a craigslist for your area keep an eye on it ive seen cheap tanks and i have even been givin some tanks

The other issue with acrylic is coraline algae. It will grow much faster on acrylic than it will glass. more chances to scratch the tank cleaning it.

The dimensions you are wanting will definitely be a custom job. so you might want to start saving up, because even if it's not reef savvy, it will still be fairly expensive.
