Pickup, how does one determine how many leds to use on tank? What colors? Etc..

Yikes... that is a major discussion... take a baby step by getting one of those stunner strips first... that will go a LONG way. a Full LED system will cost you a couple hundred bucks or more to get there.

Bart's tank is pretty awesome. a 185 with two 400 watt Halides at 12k with no other supplementation.

Also if its sps colors your trying to get up 175w halides probably to low. More intense light = more color

14k on the halides and ATI purple+ and blue+. For t5.
If u want an led supplement. Go with an all blue reefbrite strip

I switched my bulbs a couple.months ago I now run 14 k 150s and and lots of blue + and my color never been better
