Hi everyone! I am not exactly “new” to the hobby, but there is still much I can learn, and recently I have made up my mind to upgrade my tank! I am looking for something in 50 gallon or less range, mostly because of space and cost budgets. Anything bigger is not easily done. My original tank I have currently is a 28 gallon biocube, almost 3 Year’s now, and it is great. But the more I get into the hobby, the more coral I want, lol, and the more fish I want to keep but cannot due to the smaller tank size. If there are any good fairly inexpensive brands of aquariums for my upgrade, please let me know! I was looking into innovative marine, and I like their all in one systems, but they are still a little pricey with the stand and such. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know!!

If you're a DIY kind of person, you could pick up a 40 gallon breeder and a 20 gallon long at petco's dollar per gallon sale and turn that into a new system :) Drill the 40 breeder, and get some acrylic and make your own sump. Or you could always go sump-less and use a hang on back aquaclear filter

The innovative marine tanks are nice. If you are lucky you can get them for about half the list price. I found a place that had a real deal. But even then, you can get a tank in the same size at a much lower price in a DIY or craigslist. You might try a 55 gallon with day a 20 gallon sump.

the 40 breeder option is the way to go IMO as well. Wait for petco dollar per gallon sale and can do a lot of custom stuff with it. or try to find a 50 like mine. its a nice depth and can handle a good amount of corals and fish.

in terms of fish, generally the significant differences in minimum tank sizes generally go 10, 30, 55, 75 and so on. I would see if you could go with at least a 55 as then you could open up your options for wrasses at least.

petco did away with the dollar per gallon on the tanks over 20 gallons.

AWWW I thought it was up to 40. that stinks

They used to, now they do it by percentage on the larger tanks so the deal is not as good. Still a great way to get a 20 long, just not much else.

I do have a twenty long too from the sale, I am probably either going to use it as a sump or a quarantine of some kind, if I can find a good deal on the innovative marine lagoon 50, that would be my desired tank. I love the shape and the clean look innovative does with their tanks.

Are there any websites you guys know of that has them for less than usual, or is it more of a get it when a sale comes around kind of thing?

The fish I would like to add the MOST to the new system would be dwarf angels and maayyyybbbeee a small yellow tang, although I’m not sure if it would be big enough still. And most of ALL, a golden dwarf moray eel.

i had a 32 biocube and just upgraded with a 40 gal breeder with a HOB. I love the new size and shape!
