Have a 39gal looking to up it to a 55gal. I'm not quite happy with my current tanks rock situation.

Would it be better to complete tare down and start fresh in the 55, and then just transfer my live stock once that is complete?

Currently I've the Florida live rock in my 39 and I feel like it's caused noting but problems on and off for the last year and a half.

Input please! Thanks in advance for any help!

If you don't have a budget of any kind Red Sea 250 is defiantly the way to go

What don't you like about the rock you have. I have used caribsea liferock in my last 4 tanks and would recommend. Setting up the 55 with whatever new rock, sand, and media you choose; cycle it and transfer everything over is a good way to go.

The Florida live rock that I have has had a ton of unwanted hitchhikers and unwanted algae, and die off. Thinking it maybe best to salvage a couple of the rocks and start with new and then transfer over.

With the cycling of the new tank is it necessary to run a skimmer during that process? Only have the one and don't wanna purchase another just to cycle

I would cure some dry rock in a container with salt water and a power head. Then I would shift everything over in as short of a time as possible. Anything you do not want to retain, you can get rid of then. You can probably arrange for local reefers or the LFS to take it off your hands.
