Hi Everyone!

I am new two reef2reef, but thought I would join to post my 60 gallon reef build.

I started this build back in March. I purchased a used 60 gallon cube. It came with the following items:
  • 60 Gallon Aquarium
  • Custom Stand
  • Sicca return pump
  • Trigger sytem sump
  • Simplicity protein skimmer
I plan on making this a SPS dominant reef tank. I am taking this build unbearably slow. I will break up all that I have done since march into different post. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Here are some pictures of the aquarium when we first bought it. We painted it white to match our home better.

Next, we got around to plumbing the sump and aquascaping. Since this will be an sps dominant tank we decided to go bare bottom and not add sand.

I purchased a package of assorted MarcoRocks from waterbox aquariums here: https://waterboxaquariums.com/products/marco-rocks

I got the reef 70.2 package which included:
  • 25 lbs of reefsaver
  • 10 lbs of foundation rock
  • 15 lbs of reefsaver shelf rock
I was very nervous about the quantity of rocks in the box. Therefore, I purchased a slightly large package. I was also concerned about rocks breaking during shipping, especially the shelf rock.

However, I couldn't be more satisfied. Every rock was carefully bubble wrapped and there was an ample supply of rocks.

It took a few hours to get the aquadcape exactly how I wanted it, but I was pleased with the final result. I wanted multiple layers of shelves for plenty of space for frags to grow out. I also wanted plenty of nooks and crannies for fish to swim through and hide in.

Here is what the final design looked like before a cemented the pieces together. Let me know what you think!

Thanks! I cant wait until I actually drop coral in the tank. It looked even better once I finally cemented the pieces together and straightened out some of the rocks.

I may have used too much mortar. But, hopefully coraline algae and corals grow over it.
