Get yourself some free and total chlorine test trips and test your waste water from your RO/DI unit. It should be 0. If not, I'd test my water after the DI to see if it's getting past the unit. If it shows chloramines, you can still use it if you treat it with Prime or Amquel plus. Then change your carbon blocks ASAP!
Chloramines stay in the water much longer than chlorine, thus could be damaging corals.

I found my local water supply's managing supervisors email address and sent him a request and he responded that they do use chloramines to treat the water. (In a Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) Do it now! Lol. Seriously, NOW!

I had RTN and STN when parameters were out of wack. More than likely it is alkalinity burn since you state it occurs at the tips.
PMdI've been having the same problem for the past year. It comes and goes but I can't figure it out. At first I thought it was ALK swing. I've been testing ALK every day with no swing. Maybe a nutrients issue so I dose NO3 and PO4 to keep at no3=3 PO4=.02. Now I'm starting to think it's my ph swing from 7.95-8.45 daily. Now this happens every time I feed or do a water change.

Start adding kalkwasser to your ATO. It will help some with PH swings.
I don't disagree. I just don't like this method personally unless you have the Alk/Ca demand and can back off dosing to use it. He's in a 10 gallon if I remember right. I don't know much about nano ATO, but seems like a huge gamble with little room for error.

I am wondering this too. If you read the article that one of the guys from American reef wrote about "Tank Parameters of Masters" a lot of them have higher nitrates around 10ppm and phosphates around 0.03ppm so I doubt that the ratio is off.
I am assuming he is talking about the red field ratio though

Those images do not indicate an issue, the acropora are slimming (some acro's do more than others) and the first image the acropora is showing mesenterial filaments not uncommon at all.

Sorry to jump on the thread, but how slow is stn and how rapid is rtn?
For instance I have birdsnest that loose polyps/tissue at their base, but that's been going on a year. I had Milka which took about four days to loose its tissue at the base. Is the birdsnest stn and Milka rtn? Or is birdsnest just shading itself and milkas fours day degeneration classed as stn?
I think the Milka tissue necrosis was caused by my calcium reactor slowly packing up and the KH/Alk dropped gradually till it became too low....I got complacent with testing.

It's normal for birdsnest to lose polyps/tissue where they are getting no light because of the higher branches. RTN means the coral is dead in a day. STN means a few days/week or two.
