Since the power outage and my Icecap ballast catching fire, everything seemed fine. Well as of the last 2 weeks or so I have had some losses...

2 Yumas (rare color morphs) although not technically dead or melted they should be by the looks of them.
All but 3 frags of PDs the largest 7 polyps of which I have to ship to David, the other 2 are one polyp each. I had about 20 polyps.....
Happy Samhains mother frag
All Yellow Submarines
Some cool blues I had

A few other 2-3 polyp frags of stuff that had no name.....

The rest are fine and things look to be back to normal, kinda makes me wonder if I had an ammonia spike or something.....Either way kinda ticks me off as I had not had any losses in a year or more......

Just thought I would share, who else has had some losses lately?

I have had loses as well. Just out of no where, zoas just melting away. No reason for it either. All water quality is fine, and temp 79/80 always. No reason for the melt, but i just take it as it happens i guess. It sucks.

Yea I hear ya the thing that sucks is the Happy Samhains and the Yellow Submarines.....I can't find the yellow Submarines again as I have looked all over. I still have some Happy Samhains but those are frags to be traded, there is a place I might beable toget more of them. As far as the Yumas I knew I was taking a risk but before the week and a half drama they were spectacular......Ooh well win some lose some I guess.....

Indeed. Thats a drag. Im sure one day the yellow subs will come around again. Its a hellofa addiction/hobby that can drive ya crazy one day, and make you happy the next. All depends what you wake up to and come home to heh. I havn't lost nothing to uncommon, just watching um go angers me when you can't fix um....So im just concentrating more on my fish these days lol. Easier atm.

i have the happy samhains, some have melted on me though. I took one large flat colony and made it three pieces. I am trying to isolate the best polyps to hopefully save what i can. One frag from the original colony i got has survived for a couple weeks.

i'll let you know for the future how they turn out.

Sorry to hear about your losses James....

I know you had a frag of happy's for me I think. Just keep them and let them grow in to 2 frags and we can trade then. :D

Here you go CK.....

sorry to hear about your losses, James.....if you were any closer, i'd toss you a couple frags of my stuff...no worries at all!

Those submarines look like washed out or greened up mean greens.

I hear you on the zoo loss thing. I had a really sweet collection of palys and zoos a few years ago. Then they got nudi's and spiders from some wild rocks and by the time I figured it out and was treating them, I lost most of the cool stuff. Then building back up I got zoo pox a few times, so it can be very frustrating. That's why I just have a few big colonies of eagle eye, radioactive dragon eyes, and a couple nice palys.

My nicest ones are a mini colony of candy apple reds, but the dang things won't frag. I'm super gentle with them, but everytime I try to make a frag it melts!! sigh...

if i'm not mistaken, candy apple reds are a indo variety, z. gigantus....only thing different with them when compared to other PE polyps is that they don't have green slits for mouth (it's usually grey, white, or some odd colour)

....i've seen colonies of it come into my local shops as "bali" zoas....as such, i've had very good luck fragging these types of zoas...in fact...they frag VERY easily, ime...maily cuz they have large, easy to see polyps....

how are you fragging them? what do they do when they melt

(sorry for hi-jackign your thread James!)

I love wacky images...especially animated GIFs.......REV! you listening!?! pls. allow animated gifs for CZ avatars already!!!!!!!!! lol

I usually just gently peel a few off of the colony and use some super glue gel to frag them down. But they never make it. I really like them, but I think I'm going to get rid of them if I can't frag them. All my corals have to earn their keep. ;p
