ok so i had some leopards 2 Midas blenny in a qt and started loosing wrasses. i dosed copper up to 1.75 and at the 18 day mark lost a Midas blenny. copper levels have fluctuated some as follows.

4-10. 1.53
4/11. 1.70
4-13 1.73
4-15 1..79
4-18 1.62
4-21 1.88
4-29 1.72

should i move to sterilize tank? also tried to feed general cure but fish will not touch medicated food.

What copper are you using? How are you testing? Do you rock or sand in QT? Any obvious signs of illness?

If the copper has not dropped below 1.5 (I’m assuming you are using copper power or another chelated copper) for at least 14 days, you can transfer to a second un-medicated tank and observe.

But, I agree that there is likely something else going on here. How quickly was the copper brought up to 1.5? Have the fish been checked or treated for flukes? Any specific observations prior to starting the copper would be helpful.

How big was the qt? Generally, midas blennies aren't very tolerant of each other in captivity, let alone in more cramped quarters of a qt.

i’m using coppersafe and checking with hanna checker. i believe the 4-18 1.62 test was a mistake because i dosed .5 ml after and it brought it to 1.88 so based on previous doses .5 would bring my ten gal tank up .12.

there is sand in the qt in tubs i should probably take out. idk why i left it in there. it was in there for the wrasses but they are gone now:(

no signs of illness that i can see.

copper was brought up to 1.5 over 3 days

here is a link to what i went threw with the wrasses prior to this that may help. i did fw dip a wrass and seen no flukes but never did the midas.

What about ammonia? Do you have an alert badge on the QT? How’s the water quality holding up?

And water movement, is the tank heavily aerated?

i do have a amonia alert badge that shows amonia is fine but i have not done a wc in a month. i’m using some kind of bacteria in a bottle. i habe a air stone with a ***** air pump and a mj 900 running pointed towards the surface for airation.

Sorry for your losses :( You just never know how individual fish are going to tolerate copper. It is after all a poison.

come to think of it i missed a day of young tank off. that ended up me adding a 1/2 gal to top it off. i wonder if this deceease in volume spiked copper level enuf to cause midas to die?

I have 2 in QT right now. Had to put in a divider because they fought. No issues with copper but they were only in copper for 2 weeks.
