Rest in Peace Red :rip:
Perfectly healthy fish. I found him on top of my glass cover this morning.

Sorry for your loss.

With wrasses, if the head fits the fish can (and will) fit. Any gaps in the cover which provide an escape path will eventually be found.

+1... I found my Flame Wrasse hiding behind my external pump after a couple of weeks when I started to smell something. It jumped out through a 1" hole in the netting above the tank.

Yeah, I know. The second one I've lost to jumping. A 1" opening at the back where wires go into the tank is where he jumped out. Thanks guys.

I really suggest a the clear netting with window frame that brs sells and other places if you have a wrasse, fire fish or jaw fish. They will jump out eventually.

I just got some of the clear mesh netting from my lfs and a window screen framing and bead from home depot and made one. They look really clean and neat and dont reduce lght.

I had just had a angel jump.

I have a glass cover, with plastic strips at the back. The plastic strip isn't heavy enough to keep him from jumping. Do you poke holes in the mesh for wires? Then there is the problem of what to do when you have to take the power heads out to clean them. I guess when my power heads start going out, I'll have to invest in a couple of MP40's. Can you post a pic of what you made? Would love to see it.

^ You can notch the screen frame to make room for any wires; keeps the top removable but still seals any gaps.

I had to do this after losing a new flasher a while back. I knew better too, I like to learn things the hard way though :(

So sorry to hear this Connie...

I think I will do this. I don't want to lose any more fish. Does it just replace the glass covers?

You might be able to lay the screen over wires and drape it over the back of tank. Bummer when the guys are a flight risk. Sorry

Yes, you'd replace them completely. I'm not a big fan of glass covers as they reduce gas exchange, trap heat, and get dirty and covered with condensation. And then that cuts down PAR.

I wouldn't recommend that; if the screen can be pushed out of the way by a torpedo it surely will be.

I always build my screen frames so they fit a big tight inside the tank trim. This way they cannot be knocked off by a jumper.

Not to mention when they do hit it, it knocks em silly

When I had wrasses they would jump and hit themselves off the t5's and the reflectors ouch! You think after doing that a couple times they would learn. Sorry to hear about your fish:(
