I recently brought a potters angel. I got him eating like a pig before adding copper. Added copper to 1.5 over a 10 day period. Last night I went to feed him and he had that death wiggle with heavy breathing. I did a 10 gallon water change. 20 gallon tank. This morning he was dead. His fins looked like some was missing. Not much. Only one in the tank. I did not find any velvet and ich.. Trying to figure out what killed him.

Did you ever FW dip the fish to check for flukes?

Fin deterioration is usually either flukes or bacterial issues.

If the fish had a bacterial infection this is likely the cause of death.

Sorry for your loss :(

I've been wanting a Potters Angel. I never did a fresh water dip. I'm really confused on which disease to treat first. I have a coral beauty in another QT tank from the same LFS. Should I be treating for flukes and bacterial infection based on the way the potters looked?

I would. in my book, the only lfs that doesnt have ich or some kind of bacteria is the one that hasn't opened yet.

I always treat copper and prazi. not a huge fan of treating with antibiotics without good cause BUT.. having another fish die from the same store is pretty good cause in my book..

The more experienced will have advice on specific meds.
