Hello Everyone,

I am new to R2R. I have been in the saltwater hobby for about 5 years, no matter how much you research it seems there is always something you've never came across. I will say I have been lucky and never had an entire tank crash until now.

About two years ago I moved across the states and brought my Reef with me, I lost a lot of coral but not all. Fast forward 4 years. Recently I have been battling Non stop algae issues, mainly green hair & the infamous red slime (Ciano). I have been dosing with sludge build up, phosphate reducers, chemiclean w/3 day black outs & Weekly water changes. But with the longevity of battling & Dosing I started loosing Coral and ultimately my fish.

Stocked w/ Pair of clowns & 1 Red hawk fish.

I am still battling trying to save the coral I have remaining.

So, where I am going with this. I would like some input on my new stocking Ideas. Looking for thoughts with why and why nots.

Sorry to hear……
Collect a water sample and save it and obtain ICP test
Take a second water sample and take it to a trusted LFS that does not use API test kits and have them test your water and see what results they come up with and to compare with yours
Then perform major water change
Assure your RODI cartridges are not spent and what salt are you using?

if I understand correctly, you have a 20 gallon currently stocked with a red hawkfish and a pair of clowns, and you want to add more fish, is that right? If thats correct, the tank is too small for the hawkfish, and very unlikely it will allow new fish into the tank. 3-4 fish is pretty full for a 20 gallon.

Do not add any additional livestock until you get the tank parameters under control. You may need more water changes and less feeding (2 guesses) to keep your tank stable and healthy before you start changing the biosphere again with random additions.
Otherwise, it will likely crash again, ime.
