Just looking for some eel experience, My snowflake eel has been playing hide and seek for to days now... Don't see anywhere, he couldn't have gotten out of tank (at least no signs and I had everything covered well and haven't found him either. I Fed the tank ( I have a puffer and a clown in with him) and he didn't appear is this normal? Only had him since Sat. So not sure of his routine yet.

What rocks do you have? I've got a golden dwarf that's the same size and can fit inside pukani rock. I actually pulled a rock out of the tank doing a little rescape and didn't realize he was INSIDE the rock until I saw him sticking his head outside the rock trying to breathe. He was only out of water a minute tops and I put his rock back in the tank. It's very possible your eel could be all the way inside a rock hiding from you. They take a while to adjust to their new home and may be tempermental while adjusting.

That's a pretty small snowflake. He could just be hiding pretty effectively, could be in the overflow, or escaped because a snowflake that small doesn't need much space.

Yeah I know he is pretty small I re acquascaped the tank just for him so you can't really see to the center of structure and I do have a lot of porus live rock could be hiding. I read a lot about them I know the are escape artist but I don't see where he could have gotten out. Tank he is in is 60 gallon rimless cube with corner overflow, I put sponge around return line then plastic canvas, egg crate and then screen on top of that for the over flow then I have eggcrate with screen on top of that for the tank perimeter with a canopy on top of that, anything is possible I guess but I really thought I had Fort Knox for the tank lol. Should I give it a few more days before I start moving aqua scape inside to see if he is just hiding somewhere? It's just odd cause Sat and Sun he was pretty active in the tank and in the for front.

Agreed, it'll also upset him if he's not injured by a falling rock. Could possibly take even longer to come out.

Eels are not generally free swimmers and will only poke their head out of the rocks every now and then, but only once they feel secure. My dwarf was accustomed to me and captivity, until i moved him from his temporary tank into his permanent home. He went on a week long hide and seek match and after he came out didn't eat until the 12th day in the tank. They are very hardy creatures, but can be drama queens about changes.

I just went a week without seeing my snowflake. He's about the same size but it's near impossible to find him in pukani. Have you tried holding a piece of shrimp near the power head or his area? Mine comes out immediately when it's feeding time

Probably tucked away somewhere i wouldn't be too concerned I've had one not seen him for a week aswell. Eventually he ventured out when he was hungry enough as I usually hand feed him.

Also they are notorious escape artist so really check around the tank well and even further. I legit came home once and the eel was at the other end of the house. Trying to escape to the back yard lol!

Haven't seen it on the floor/ anywhere either, I'll give it sometime maybe it's just settling in,thanks for all the responses

Yeah, I had one for 11 years and it escaped from a hole way too small for it to fit through....also found mine dead across the hall in the bathroom. They get strong.
