Had an electrical fire in house. Smoke filled everywhere. Fish died immediately. Corals died next day. Now can I save live rock? Live sand is gone with bristleworms dead. 13 tanks.

Oh man!! Sorry for your losses. Honestly, if it killed everything else, it's likely the rocks are contaminated too.
Is your house ok?

House is ok, except smoke damage, which ceilings have to go, carpet gone, all mattresses, living room and dining room now history. But no real structure damage.

sorry about the loss man! personally i would reuse the rock, perhaps maybe a restart altogether? i mean sounds like your house will be going through a big remodel now. maybe shut the tank down for now!

I'm so sorry to hear this.

To move forward, I would transfer all of the live rock into a tub with all fresh salt water running large amounts of carbon and changing it often.

This is a good time to completely clean the rock. A stiff bristled brush will help unclog a lot of the pores from debris.

Now treat it as you would any other rock cooking operation. Feed the rock, after a few weeks you can try adding a few snails and see how they do.

Personally, before loading up the rock in a new tank, I'd run an icp test on it just to ensure there is nothing left that you don't want in there.

I would expect much of the life in your rocks expired as well. You could put the rock into large brute containers a begin the process of reestablishing life.

I am so sorry to hear about your losses. I hope insurance will cover it.

WOW that is awful. Since the fire started from the tank electrical, are you getting any push back from family saying no to start the tank back up again??

sorry for your losses :disappointed-face:
