Keep my family in your prayers please...

My Grandpa started feeling bad a couple weeks ago but got bad over the past two days. He has never taken meds and hasn't been to a doctor in 29 years. I stayed all day with him and had just left when I got a call that he passed away.

Paw was a 96 year old man who loved God and his country. He lost his left arm in WWII when a mortar struck near him. He was thought to be dead but was later found alive stacked with other dead men. He was a purple heart recipient as well as a bronze star. Last summer he was still mowing his grass with a push mower and one arm. That's just how he wanted it.

He refused to go to the hospital and to take medicine and he trusted in God to bring him through. God did for 96 years. He died in his favorite chair. That's just how he wanted it. He was in and out of it tonight, but he told me he loved me just before I left and that was the last thing he said before he passed. I feel blessed to have had such a fine man as a Grandpa.

Roy Lee Hammontree Rest In Peace...

My condolences to you and to your family. I will pray for your Grandfather. Take care bro and be safe.

That is a lovely tribute rev, for one of The Greatest Generation. Sorry for your loss. Steve

Sorry to hear of your loss of a great man in your family and for our country.

Sorry to hear this dave. You and the family are in my prayers. He is in a better place, though im sure it is hard to let him go.

So Sorry to hear Dave! He sounds like a great man. I am sure he will be missed dearly. It is times like this that test our faith. We must remember that the ones we lose are not lost at all but they are home with Christ and we will see them again. Prayers are with you and your family, my God support you and give you strength through this.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. It is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says: "There...she is gone!"

"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight....that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!".

And that is dying. Henry Van ****

This was a great comfort to me when my mother died, that and the fact that my loving husband redid our whole home so "Bushe" could come live with us in comfort the last 5 years of her life.

Remember Rev...when you look at the stars they are windows in the floor of heaven and while you're looking up praying that those you loved and lost are safe, happy and free...well, perhaps they are looking at those same stars from the other side, making the same wish for us and sending all their love.

You, Grandpa and the rest of your family will be remembered in my daily prayers...May God send his guardian angels to wrap their healing wings about you in your time of grief.

[FONT=Georgia, Verdana]Grandparents are special
in so many different ways,
Their hearts are filled with love
and they brighten up our days.
Grandparents are great listeners
when we need them to advise,
Because they’re always understanding
and are truly very wise.
Grandparents have great smiles
because they’ve been smiling for so long,
And they even make us smile
when everything is going wrong.
Few can bring the warmth
that can be found in their embrace,
And little more is needed to feel loved
than the smile on their face.
They’re a supply of precious stories
yet they’ve time to wipe a tear,
And give us reasons to laugh
as they grow more precious through the years.
Nobody can do for grandchildren
what grandparents are willing to do,
Because grandparents sprinkle stardust
over our lives in all that we do.
Grandparents are so generous
and they make sure we have the best,
So I’m thankful for my grandparents
and I know I’m truly blessed.
May the land yield unto them
a perfumed garden always growing,
With a warm breeze and a quiet sea
that’s filled with love overflowing.

My prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time. I am a posting a poem about grandparents that I found after my grandfather passed a while back. It has stayed with me when I think of him in memory.

May we all be as fortunate as your Grandpa, it sounds like he was one of a very precious few that are healthy and happy to a very old age.

Remember him as he was, and he lives forever. :D My condolences to you and your family while you grieve. I am sure your Grandpa is celebrating his life now.

Very sorry to hear that Rev, my condolences to you and your family. May he rest in peace.

Dave, I sorry about your loss. I am blessed to have three grandparents still alive. I loss my maternal grandfather about 5 years ago and it was hard to see him go. But he is at a better place because he had suffered from Alzheimers for about 8 years. I have always been close to my grandparents. I know you will miss your grandfather very much and my prays and blessings go out to you and your family.

Monica
