Power outage at the office so I came home and found our loved Six line wrasse on the floor. Super bummed. He was my wife's favorite and we've had him for over a year. He was just a little guy when we got him and he'd grown significantly. I have a lid on my tank too. There's about a 1" gap in the middle though, so he made it through that.

My wife is going to be really bummed. She's new to tanks and just isn't used to stuff like this that's common to the hobby.

I suppose I will now need to get some new glass pieces cut in order to eliminate that gap.

There's no rhyme or reason to why fish jump, right? He was the king of our tank as far as fish go - citron goby, clown goby, 2 true percs, Randalls goby, lyre tail anthia (female), and a purple fire fish - so no issues there.

Just a random thing?

Sorry to hear that. Six lines are notorious jumpers, I lost a clown that decided to jump and since then have a secure cover without any gaps. Tough to learn the hard way but such is life sometimes.

I also lost a wrase to a small hole in my tank's lid. I had a hole where some wires went in the tank. It was maybe at most an inch by half inch. Well the wrase found it and jumped out. Actually it got out twice. Once the dog was sniffing around and I heard something and it was on the floor flopping and dirty. I put it in a cup of tank water to clean it off and back in the main tank and it was fine. I figured the hole was small and it seemed like a winning the lotto chance that the fish would find it in the first place so I thought surely it wouldn't happen again. Two months later I come home from a weekend away to a missing wrase which was discovered behind the tank on the floor all dried up. Now I know. If you have a wrase and water even close to the top have a very good lid or net or something.

you can have mines for $10...it's a bully to my small gobie and made it jump out of the tank. luckily, i was there to save it. never had problem with it jumping.
