Lost Power! I think I just Dodged a Bullet!

If nothing else, get the battery backup for the gyre and invest in a boatload of batteries. A relatively small investment to keep flow in your tank and safeguard your system for shorter periods of outages. Flow is crucial during these periods.

I know this might sound extreme to some and it's definitely not for everyone, but I invested in an automatic home generator. And not just for the tank system. But as soon as I lose power, it kicks in and the interruption of power is just a blip. Considering the values and the investments we make in our tanks, especially the larger systems, this doesn't seem all that far fetched and is something to really consider if possible.

Terrible feeling. luckily it was a Saturday and i was home, sitting right next to the tank lol.

Does anyone here run an Apex classic?? The reason I ask is because I noticed that the apex sends me a text message when the power goes out. The problem is that I don't get a text until the power is restored. Is there a way to change this to have it text you as soon as the power shuts off??

Seems kinda silly to get a message after the fact.

Like oh btw your power is back on now but hey it failed 3 hours ago. Lol smh!!

Yep, I do. Pick up a power supply for the "brain" itself and turn on power monitoring. Of course you'll need a UPS for the EB8 too.

It uses the direct power to tell if the power is out and then you can have it alert or shut down certain outlets (that are running on the UPS). That's what I do. I shut down everything but my RW-4's when there's a power outage.

OH, but keep in mind that if you don't have a UPS on your internet router or if the power is out to your ISP's hardware in the ground, you won't get the alerts. BUT you'll still have flow in the tank from your powerheads.

I am using a couple of 110 amp car batteries with inverter.
All stuff up and running, it lasts for 6-8Hrs. Return & ps and a kessil; easily over 15 hours. This is for 50% of batteries, the safe limit.

Nice! I never really thought about doing that , but it's a great idea! Not only that but you don't have to go to a LFS in an emergency. I'm sure any 24hr truck stop would have what you need in a pinch!

The only downside is weight

I believe this is the final solution if you dont have a gen. or dont like gen noise. I am living in an apartment 11th floor and connected everything to breaker box.

Power failure is very rare here but it is still cool to be able to turn on all the house lights in case of failure, especially when you are surrounded by total darkness in all neighborhood *evilgrin*

Thanks to everyone for great suggestions! I'm sure we've all learned something from this. I know that this experience has opened my eyes to some new and different options that can save you from a disaster!

All fish are fine , tank is running like a champ , and I've got lots of emergency goodies headed my way!
