LOST POWER IN NY - Need Suggestions

Ugh. Still no power 27 hours later at this point. Spoke with power company and they said no timetable and they haven’t even been out to evaluate the damage yet... So scared I’m gonna lose everything.
Kenya looks dead already. Worried if I should remove the 4 nems and polys I have so if they do die they don’t destroys what may survive. Very cloudy and starting to smell.

Update? I got the same power supply Just now. Running a power head. But how are you gonna charge it once it dies?????

I live in a condo complex and somehow my garage (not attached) still has power. Must be separate feeder lines. I HATE CON ED! My fellow NY’ers I’m sure will agree!

prob not poss and not legal but can you run extention cords from?? agitate water with fish net get more oxygen in there,if poss a 5 gallon water change? would not move corals just yet seem to look just closed ,is smell coming from tank or sump area,use your sniffer guessing sump area,any other ideas all???

Can’t run a cord as per HOA... I am doing all of the above. Was up all night just heard may not be up till Sunday... Smell coming from sump... Trying to stay positive but this knock me out of the game after 4 months and a ton of $$$. Sad.

will your battery backup run return pump and skimmer? can recharge in garage??

That’s what I’m trying to do but when I bought it was only like 1/4 charged got about an hour. Been charging now for 6 hours gonna see if it can handle the skimmer to now.

Just remember to keep feeding minimal and scoop out extra food if you do feed since there is nowhere for it to go. Good luck. Hope it all goes good.

it may sound crazy ,but if no power for days ,if backup will run return and skimmer,may want to go get another one ,so one can charge and be ready when 1st loses power and swap them

I would buy another battery bAckup and charge/swap out.

my power came back at 6pm. It went about 24 hours without power.

when I got home I got the battery backup and ran the smallest power head to get some flow. 2 hours later power came back.

I lost 1 fish. Surprisingly- the corals (acro) look the best they’ve ever looked??? Everything is back to normal.

hang in there! Just agitate the water with a small power head. If it will run a small skimmer then I would just put the skimmer in the display with the cup out and let the bubbles come up over the top.

DONT feed anything.

get a manual thermometer and do your best to control the temp.

open windows and hood if you have




I was told a slow drop of hydrogen peroxide can help. 1 drop every 10 seconds. Maybe google before you try this as this was a recommendation from a reefer that I don’t know very well

My sons friend had one and had power so he heard my son talking about my tank and just showed up with it and hooked me up! Still some really kids out there!! Definitely buying one though!!

FYI, my first small generator I got on amazon, free shipping with prime. They still have a number of them available. Buy any with an inverter that meets your load needs and budget you’ll tank me later.

If the sump water smells I would change it out before turning the return pumps on. Mix new heat on stove etc and then start up
