We all know that Multiple tangs in any tank is always hit or miss. Better chance if different shapes, color and genre. Sometimes groups of 3 or more of the same species, ie 3+ yellows, will work as aggression is shared more widely. Need big tank for that of course. We also know that the bigger the tank the more of a chance that success can happen with multiple tangs. Yellow and hippo blue co exist often in set ups.I have a 625g tank that just completed its cycling. I will move slowly now with adding fish. In about a month or so I will add tangs on same day. Likely will try to get them all around the same size....Will add the hippo first, 1 to 2 hours later will add the Gem, yellow and purple at the same time and hope it works. If after some days they don’t coexist, I have a plan B which will be to set up a mirror as I’ve had success putting a small mirror in the outside of a lower corner of the tank which allows for the more aggressive tang to take out his/her aggression harmlessly. Plan C will be to remove whoever is the aggressor....Likely the Purple but we’ll see. Opinions and feedback welcomed! Thx

In a tank that size, I really don't foresee much of a problem...especially if you have sufficient rock work for any on the receiving end of aggression to go and take a time out, I have a Dasjardinii, a yellow, a hippo, an orange shoulder, and a half black mimic in a 300, and haven't had any issues.

That's a better plan than most have. I have 4 in my 6ft 125, all introduced on the same day. There are a few skirmishes here and there with my powder blue and purple. I keep the tank well fed to keep that to a minimum.

With a 625 you may not need to worry about this but I added the tangs last....or so i thought...i have made a few impulse purchases since they have been the king's of the tank....have had to break out the mirror for those situations.

At that size tank I think you should be fine and I agree the order. PBT (if u like those) should be later. I have a purple, yellow and PBT in a 120 display with no troubles for three years.

I guess one question/observation: the tangs will be your first fish inhabitants? I guess I might suggest adding some other more docile fish in the beforehand. More fish maybe equals more distraction?

I have a medium (5in) whitetail bristletooth tang in a standard 4ft length 75 now. I'm seriously considering getting a yellow for added color. The whitetail had been in there for about 8 months now. What size yellow Tang should I be looking to get? Smaller, same, or larger than the bristletooth? Thanks!

Like others have said, a tank that big should work just fine. I have 6 tangs (Blonde Naso, Fowleri, White Tail bristletooth, Blue Hippo, Achilles)in my 300g. 3 more(2 Lavendars, Purple) in QT.

Is 2 in a 75 pushing it too much? Whitetale Bristletooth is already established, considering a yellow. They don't look too much alike to me, but who knows LOL. What size should I consider?

I have had a Yellow and a Hippo in my 90 for 8 months now, and they get along just fine.

It could work but personally I wouldn't put tangs in a 4ft tank. And yes I'm part of the Tang police LOL

I have a purple, yellow, and a whitecheek in my 210. The purple and yellow are friends. The yellow is definitely the boss, but they hang out in the same rock work and get along fine. The purple gets more agitated whenever I add a new fish, but it is the yellow that is the tank's alpha. They aren't fond of my whitecheek so he avoids them. But overall, they work out. Supposedly tangs will become more aggressive and territorial as they mature. My current tank is only a year old and I've had the tangs (guessing) for about six months and are about 6" long. So far it has been relatively peaceful with a couple spats here and there. I'm hoping it continues that way.
