Hello All,

So I have a lighting maroon and a yellow stripe maroon that are being hosted by my green tip nem. Since I got the lighting on Friday she went straight into the green tip where my yellow maroon was being hosted and they immediately began to frolic in the nem for the next few days. Today I got home from work and noticed that the yellow stripe maroon wasn't in the nem and instead seemed to be almost hosting my power head. As she swam around the tank I noticed his fins were clipped and he's staying mainly near the top of the tank. Should I isolate him in a breeder net for a bit or is this normal? As I am writing this I just saw the lightning go after yellow maroon. Any thoughts or advice? Should I just let them be as they may still be trying to pair up? The lighting is bigger than the yellow stripe btw..... Thanks

It will not work out if you have two females. Typically the larger fish is the female and the most aggressive fish of a pair. Once there is actually physical injury such as frayed fins it's time to intervene. Again if you ended up with two female removing one with the intention of reintroduction would be pointless. Some Maroon clowns will not accept another clown regardless of if the introduction is a juvenile.

Ok, thanks Tahoe. I isolated the Yellow Maroon until I can take her to the store tomorrow. It's a shame. she was a good fish but shes getting torn up. I heard maroons are mean but I figured they were fine. All weekend long and up until today neither of them came out of the anemone. Oh well. Once again, thanks.

You're welcome.

Lightings are such awesome fish, that would have been the one I choose as well. If you do decide to introduce another clown, it would behoove you to use an acclimation box and to make sure you're introducing a sexually immature clown.

Yes I over looked them at first until I started reading up on them. I also got him for a really good price. So will the LFS know if a particular clown is sexually immature?

You'll be looking for a smaller clown that is mixed in a group of other smaller clowns. Don't pick the one that is the easiest caught. You want good coloration, clear eyes, no tattered fins. Then either put the resident clown in an acclimation box or the new clown. :)

Is there an image of the Lightening on your build thread?

This is probably the best pictures I have right now. She barely comes out of the anemone. I'll try to get a better pic today.
