Low alk, calcium reactor wide open...is this normal?

I am struggling to keep my alk at 7.0 lately...my tank is a 300G sps tank. I have a few colonies but alot of medium growing frags. I have a vertex 6D calcium reactor and currently set my apex to turn on co2 at 6.50 and off at 6.55 ph in the reactor (using reborn media). I had to remove the needle valve and run it wide open (300+ml per second)...is this normal behavior? I realize my reactor is small but from what I understand a larger one wont actually produce more alk it just means I re-fill it less right? I am refilling my reactor about 1 per 6 months as it is so I am not sure I would see a benefit from a new reactor.

Sounds like your uptake of calcium ions bonding with carbonate ions is not being replished fast enough....

You need to research in depth about dosing Kalk in top off water as a POSSIBLE solution. Not the "end-all" solution to your situation but a potential method
