Low Alk, high ph

How is it possible my Alk dropped today to 4.5 and my ph is 8.4. Dosed Alk to 5.5 after losing 2 fish. What in the world is going on? Any ideas? I thought Alk and Ph followed each other up or down. My ph is usually 8.0 and my kh has been 7 until today when all hell broke loose.

I restarted reefing in 2004 with a 13 gallon tank. I used only kalkwasser as topoff.
The pH went up to 8.7 and the Ca and kH value went down. Precipitation.
I stopped the using kalkwasser - pH went down and after a few water changes the Ca and pH was normal again.

How do you know your PH reading is correct? Have you verified with multiple test kits? It is most probably incorrect.

How do you know your PH reading is correct? Have you verified with multiple test kits? It is most probably incorrect.

I tested three times with two different test kits a total of 6 times, along with my Alk I tested at least 6 times yesterday watching it rise after I dosed my two part seachem trace elements. One is trace elements, the other for Alk there is also a third for ph buffer but I did not use it yesterday.

I tested with Thymol blue. Its a pure chemical so it has its color range without any possiblity of aging or such.
My kalkwasser was RODI saturated with calcium hydroxide.
