Hi, I have a 250 gallon mixed reef tank for about 18 months now. The tank is medium stock on corals, about 15 fish varies sizes and species.

My maintenance schedule was a 20% water change weekly. several months ago, the growth and coloration in my tank stopped. I've decided to start dosing (which i wasn't before) and went with the Triton 4 part solution.

The challenge that i'm having is that my ALK usage seems very low to little. Triton recommends beginning their dosing at 8 dhk. I waited until my tank reached 7.9 and begin dosing their recommended daily dosage for a beginner doser. a few days in i noticed that my monti's went grey and an SPS colony went RTN on me. So, i tested and my DKH was @ 9. I immediately stopped dosing. 48 hours later my DKH is @ 8.6

Based on several threads I've read, similar tanks use around 1.5 - 2 dkh per day. While its only been 48 hours, it seems i'm only loosing about 0.2 dhk/day which seems incrediably low.

Any thoughts on whats going on?

It does seem as if it should be higher, but 2 days may be too short to get a good measure.

Perhaps you are adding some alk and do not know it?

What do you top off for evaporation with?

Any other additives aside from the Triton stuff?

LRS food for the fish.
straight r/O on ATO
1-2 drops of amino acids from polyp labs

I can actually relate, i use a two part, and asd ions for mag. Ive burned up 10x more part a (calc) then part b (alk)

It seems now i have to dose a cap full of calc every day and a half cap full of alk every other day
