Low flow with Varios4 according to sensor

I picked a Apex 1" flow sensor for my return pump and was surprised at the actual flow rate on my Varios-4. It's the return pump for a Reefer 350 connected with the vinyl tube and fitting that came with the tank. V4 is rated at 1050 gph but my flow sensor is showing around 220. I realize there is loss with head pressure, but 75% seems like a bit much. I did clean the pump prior to the install.

Any thoughts?

Where is the flow sensor located in relation to the pump? I did read that the flow sensor does read way lower than expected.
