I'm planning on upgrading to a 75 gallon tank. I wanted to know if you think there is a a HUGE difference (or worth the extra price) between low iron glass or just regular glass on a glass thickness of 3/8"? At what point do you think you would see a big difference if there isn't one at that thin of glass?

I have low iron on the front panel of my 45g rimless and normal glass on the sides. I was talking with my fiance about the tank upgrade (moving to a 300g) and trying to get an independent and honest opinion about the glass I'll use - she doesn't notice a difference between the sides and the front.

Neither do I honestly. If the tank is empty, you will. With water, not so much.

My glass is 1/2" thick.

It will make a significant difference in appearance due to the thickness of your 300gallon tank though. Just something to consider.

So at what thickness will you really notice it most you would say?

I think it really depends on the person, whether you notice or not. I'm an artist and things like that really stand out too me. But if you don't have one to compare the other with then it with it is likely not to be noticeable to most people

There's a huge difference between 3/4" low iron glass and 3/4" regular glass IMO.

I think there are also significant differences in the quality/clarity of low iron glass, some seem much more transparent than others (this is all my opinion from my limited exposure to it so take it for what it is worth!)

I'm not very well versed with glass and what not, but if I get a custom tank made, do you think it's likely there regular glass is better quality/clearer than the regular glass commercial tank companies use like Marineland?
