I’m wondering what I should do. My nitrates stay below 5ppm but my phosphates after feeding reef roids is .4. I feed reef roids twice a week. Should I add gfo or something or should I reduce my feedings of reef roids? I also exclusively feed frozen foods LRS and Mysis. I only feed half a tab once a day in my 20 gallon. My dilemma is if I feed more my phosphates go too high.

I would definitely run some sort of phosphate remover. You could try a different food other than reef roids. I think that LRS Reef Frenzy has some sort of reef roid equivalent in it. An amino acid supplement shouldn't do much if anything to your phosphates.

Thank you. I use Red Sea A+b for aminos. I’ll look into gfo. I just can’t use a reactor since I have all in one tank.

You can run something like phosguard or mix gfo and carbon in a bag (BRS has a video on this)

Look into Lanthium Chloride. Sold by lots of companies under different names. I have used the 2 little fishes one. I feel its better than gfo because if you use it right you can get your phosphate right where u want it. Every time I use go I seem to strip all the phosphate and then your in tricky waters especially if the darn dynos show up.

Just be extremely careful when you use anything that removes phos. They will do it VERY fast and then you have a high chance of kiling everything.

On a 20g, I really would not feed reef roids. AA is a better solution for making usre your corals get ample nutrition. And obviously fish poop, too.

BUT, the easiest way is to do a co uple large WC , in succession. Iwith a 20g that super easy

If corals are doing fine I would do nothing at all. Your nitrates to phosphates ratio are like 10 -11 which is fine according to what I read. If system is balanced that way just leave it. ddon't chase numbers, some of the best reef tanks like Sanjay have nitrates of 20ppm and noticeable phosphates!
With reef roids you have to be very careful I feed a tiny bit between my fingers, dont add a lot.

Try skipping the roids.
Research lanthanum before using it.

Thank you do you just broadcast feed them? I actually got into a green hair algae problem and I think it’s due to my nutrients so I’m trying to get those in check without actually reducing what I feed but more so using media to reduce my phosphates.

I was a belieber that the more nutrients you can put in but also export is the best. I’m feeding amino acids Red Sea a+b , and phyto daily. I also feed a full cube per day with only 3 fish. You don’t think there is a benefit to also feeding reed rounds once a week if I can manage the nutrient export ?

Yes I broadcast feed by a powerhead. Only thing I target feed is anemones and lps and using meaty fish.

Thank you. I’m kinda a dumby but I was feeding everything reed rounds including my hammers and Montipora. Maybe it’s just worth it to feed my meaty corrals like my blastos and shrooms. This will help reduce the waste and I can use less. My blastos love it. Do all lps benefit from target feeding ?

That’s what I’m thinking is your main contributor. Target feed wastes less-less phos buildup. The vast majority of lps can handle target feeding. My euphyllia couldn’t care less with target feeding so I don’t feed those.

Thank you I’m going to very carefully feed going forwarded. I also ordered some stuff to lower phosphates and I’ll be super careful and start very small amount. I’ve had to get good at small amounts in this nano!
