low- no phosphate

people, reefers pat themselves on the back for homing a tang in 200 gallon tank knowing their open ocean animals really the relative difference between the 42 and 200 g compared to opean Ocean is nothing. everyone here can rid themselves of their Tang or shut up and put up. Anyways, I don't wanna keep my Tang. I was talked around by LFS owner in I think his imperfect moment and my imperfect moment and now I look at it and like it, and I am talking myself into keeping it for a while. Tang excrete more and put more bioload in tank compared to small fish that I have . So you're telling me that will not increase my phos? Maybe you're right my lfs is full of S because he wanted to make a sale.
but everyone should stop with this, "if you don't listen to me go away". There are thousand different opinions and perspectives in this hobby.
also, there are two different tank cultures, the real world LFS tank cultures where people can buy T'sfor medium-size tanks and rehome them later, and the Internet, social media culture that frown upon anyone with the tank smaller than 200 G owning a tang. It's just a bit weird internet elitist culture.
Honestly I’m less concerned with the tang than the fact that the purpose of this thread was low phosphate and somehow the solution ended up being buying a tang… see my original reply for actual guidance on increasing phosphates. I dealt with zero phosphates myself and solved it by shutting off my skimmer and feeding reef roids 2-3x a week

There's no "elitist culture" people here really do want you to succeed. Your LFS, not so much. They want to make money off you, ( they are doing a good job btw) people here have no reason to offer up anything other than solid advice. You seem to not care about that and that's fine, keep taking advice from someone that is dependent on selling things, over people that genuinely care. After the crash, if you dont keep burning bridges I'm sure people here will help you rebuild.

Good luck OP, you seem to know what you are doing and are simply looking for confirmation.

Curious why you’d be sold a purple strictly for cyano.
Obviously she has purple cyano, soooo, purple fish.. duh!! LCS of the year.

x327, your lfs sucks. that tang will be miserable. "Good luck" - the internet people and rodi cult.

I feel like I’m talking to a teenager

Your tang won’t make it 2 years nor will it help your algae problem. I’m sorry to tell you that.

You need to reduce bioload and focus on stability and nutrient control, instead you drastically increased bioload and nitrate production. Your tank is an early stage and at this point it’s ticking time bomb and it’s going to crash and be even worse than ever.

I am going to respectfully step back from now on, I see no point helping someone who won’t listen. I do wish you luck and hope you have good outcomes.
Wait, petco is really the LFS that knows everything about reefing?! I just choked on coffee.

The rodi cult. I like it! Our governing body can be known as the Skimmer Scammers!

posting about this Tang on this thread was a bad idea. Internet posters are so self-righteous about Tangs they can keep them locked up in 75 or 80 gallon tank -- open ocean fish -- anything smaller and that's horrible. Anyways, I have no intention of keeping the tang in this 42 gallon tank for any extended period.

Comes to reefing forum, is surprised people care about fish and push for optimal conditions.

Dude, I don’t own a single open ocean OR deep ocean fish.

Bless your heart. Your back must be tired from digging this hole for two days. Take a break and a breath and apply some patience to the craft of reefing. The algae isn’t going to go away in a day, or a week even if you do everything suggested. It will still be there tomorrow even if you put 20 tangs in your tank. I say this with all the kindness an old grandma can muster, your issue is a lack of patience, not a lack of good advice. And insulting an entire reefing forum for pointing out less than stellar decisions is only going to alienate them and put them on the defensive.
Now I’m gonna go sit in my rocking chair on my front porch, spin some wool and thank my lucky stars that I have the option to just scroll right past your little threads and can completely avoid anymore of your little hissy fits. Do have a have nice day and again, bless your heart.

everything is going great. I did take out every single rock and scrub them a few days ago. That was a few days ago and no green stuff has really grown back yet. However, my phosphates do remain low - nil. I have increased my feeding, and I keep the skimmer valve open. I know I made a misjudgment buying the purple tang. I don't know how I got talkef around to it other than being told that he would help with my bio load and none of my fish were providing enough nutrition, and that I could or would re-home the tang or buy a bigger tank. But I do have buyers remorse about the tang. I just don't think it agrees with the philosophy of reefing was it impulsive to get him. because I already had a philosophy that I just wanted small fish and no tang. But maybe next year I will buy a larger tank or he will just go back to where he came from anyways everything going great with the corals and the last few days things have seem to turn around. my toadstool is finally starting to sprout which it has not in several weeks. Also, my leather is sprouting again or showing signs of sprouting, which is happy for me. But a couple of my Zoas I think I lost when I took the rocks and scrubbed them down. They have all gray out. Maybe they will make a resurgence I don't know.

also, one thing I'm concerned about is when I removed all my rock and scrubbed them down well since then I have not seen my beloved conch. I know I would've seen him when I took the rocks out so I don't know what's going on with my conch. I also lost a blue damsal in the process. I think it went with one of the rocks outside of the tank.
I also bought a microscope and received it. But now I don't have much to look at. Well, there is some green Detrius remaining here in there, but is scattered without a lot of mass and maybe I should take that new microscope to use.

I cant keep up with you, you've already got 6 fish in a 7 week old tank, now you've added another when you could have thrown in half a dozen snails. But your still coming to this guys defense... slow down, for instance why you got a star fish in a 7 week old tank?

just got over excited and impulse buying. but now my tank is completely clean the last several days since I took every live rock out and scrubbed em s then put it back in my tank. Now I'm under algaed. I've got no greens in my tank, which concerns me. I would've thought that when I cleaned the live rock the hair algae or whatever it was would've made a come back. But in four days, there's not one strand of green anywhere. I always ordered and received the handheld microscope, but I really have nothing to test. I know there's some strands of Dino that's no surprise. But that's all there is. also an acro i got you can see in the rack it didn't last a few days. ill know more soon. I ordered the ISP simple test kit test for 13 elements. I found my conch Beet but he's been a bit Lackadaisical.
