Low PH and Alk for LPS and softies

I just started my coral QT a few days ago and at that time, my PH was 8.1 and my alk was 8.2. Today, my PH is 7.3 and alk is at 7.0. I tested the alk 3 times to verify. I have LPS and softies in the 10G QT, LR, LS and a cleaner shrimp. SG is 1.025 and NH3 is 0 and Nitrates around 40. I really cannot tell yet if there is any damage to the corals but is there anything I should do?

I topped off the water tonight w about 1/4 G.

BTW, I am using API test kit for ph and Red Sea for Alk. They have never registered this low so it concerns me that it is not the test kit. Will try opening a window in Ohio!

The pH 7.3 is an error. It is never that low. Measuring pH with a kit is not generally worth doing. [emoji3]

I opened a window and retested and the pH was 8.2. How about the alkalinity at 7.0? I retested again and same results.

i agree 7.3 is probably an error, alk at 7 is fine but dont let it dip below 7 dkh.

With a basic 10G QT (HOB, pwr head and heater) how can I control alkalinity? WIll water changes help? Add something to raise alkalinity?

water changes will help but maybe dosing will be the way to go.

7.0 dKH is fine. If you choose to dose (which is the norm), a two part is typically your best option, either DIY or commercial.
