I'm looking for a very weak powered wave maker for my 5g tank that is detachable. For my setup, it would be far easier if the wave maker itself could disconnect from the long wire, being somewhat modular. Has anyone seen one of those before?

If nothing else, a very low powered wave maker would be great. I currently have a Jebao MLW-5. It's okay during the day, but I have to turn it off at night since it's too powerful when the lights are off.

Only one that can somewhat “disconnect” at the pump level would be the MP10, not exactly what you’re asking for and would probably be too much for a 5G, but maybe if you turn it down really low on power?

You could also take a regular wave maker and cut the cord to add a waterproof connector slightly outside the tank - I wouldn’t recommend doing so though, as there is a real risk to either start a fire or get electrocuted.

but I have to turn it off at night since it's too powerful when the lights are off.
It’s a misconception that wave makers should be turned down in power at night.
Waves do not stop at night in the ocean.
Only viable reason to do is to make it quieter at night.

Completely agree that cutting flow at night is not necessary, possibly even dangerous. Cutting all flow might deplete the oxygen and put your livestock into distress. Flow is very important in a salt tank, even at night.
