Hello,

after a "failed" 20G tank (got marine velvet and killed all my buddies within 24 hours), I've decided to start over and at the same time to upgrade to 65G with a 20G sump underneath. Now here is my problem: I do have only 18 inches of total height in the cabinet where the sump is located. All the skimmers I could find at my LFS and on Amazon are much taller than that (well, not much, but 22 inches simply won't fit). So I've decided to get a Macro-Aqua M-60 HOB skimmer. But I am afraid that it won't do the job for this size of a tank (although it is rated for 120G).
Do you guys have any recommendation for an actual in-sump skimmer that would fit?

Thanks in advance!

If you are just getting started can you change your stand so it is easier to work with, this stand might cause you a lot of headaches in the future.

Unfortunately, I have already about 55G of Saltwater in the tank :(
I would hate to pump it all out again as I have no way to store all of it and it took forever to make it (I make my own RODI and mix Fritz RPM salt)

After talking to my LFS and doing a "dry run" of the setup that I have, I must rethink my approach. The tank is located in my "office" at home, which also functions as the room my brother occupies as bedroom when he visits me. The sump setup is really loud and my brother would hate me for not getting much sleep :(
I don't have a drilled tank and wanted to use an overflow box with a Tom aqua lifter pump. This makes it already pretty loud. Additionally the water going down the 1" PVC pipe into the sump creates quite a bit of noise, too. I guess this is because of the overflow box, as my friends tank which is drilled doesn't get this amount of noise. His system can barely be heard.
So, I am looking into the Tunze Comline DOC Skimmer 9004 DC to be placed on the back of my tank.
Of course it will take up space and also be in the DT, but at the end, I think that is the better approach, as right now I have the overflow box where the skimmer will be placed, no big deal for me.

Can anyone let me know if this is a bad decision? (I think that the amount of fish will decrease to 8, instead of 10, but that would be acceptable)
Anyone has any experience with In Tank Skimmers?

EDIT: My LFS told me that they are working great and are basically like a AIO tank. Just would like to get a second opinion from the experts here in this great forum!
