Only a few weeks into the hobby and I finally bought a Hanna salinity checker. followed the instructions and my salinity is at 25ppt. I used the LFS salt water to set up my tank and had bought a little extra to get through the first couple water changes until I buy a ro/di system. Checked the extra water I have and it was also at 25ppt. I went back to the store to have them check it and was informed that they just sell their salt water normally at that level. Honestly that probably why my tank cycled, so quickly so that’s a plus.

My tank evaporates roughly a Half a gallon a day of water (75g tank). i Plan on using the salt water I have to top the tank off until the salinity reaches 35ppt. My question is will I be increasing The salinity to quickly or is this the correct course of action?

25ppt is fish only salinity. ~1.018.
Does your lfs sell coral too?

Yes that plan will work just fine. Top off with fresh 35ppt top off water until you reach an equalibrium

Yes they do sell corals as well. Actually purchased 4 corals from them and they are all doing great. Thanks for the input.

Because you are using their water most likely lol.
I ran a successful reef at 1.031 for years without knowing but at 1.018 id raise your salinity up a bit so you arent dealing with problems down the road when you start trying to figure out macro dosing and or salt mix parameters.

Not to mention if youre getting corals from other places, 1.018 salinity will be too low and youll need all the luck you can get acclamating

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
