Low salinity

After detecting lower salinity 1.024 in my 230 gal mostly sps .
ive mixed new saltwater for a water change tomorrow .
Calibrated both salinity checker ( Hanna ) and refractometer
New water is 1.026

is this too much of a salinity Increase at once ?

I am only changing 25 gal which I don’t see it effecting anything compared to the 230 g volume .

The salinity in the new additional water is 1.026? If that is the case it will do absolutely nothing to your 230 g salinity.

That will be fine, just add the water where it has the best chance to mix with the old water first, before hitting the fish/corals.

a 10% water change with 1.026 into a tank with 1.024 will hardly make a dent at all. After the water change then use saltwater in your ATO until you get up to where you want to be. That is the easy and slow way to do it.

The difference is 11.5 gallons of salt would need to evao off in order to change from 33 ton35 ppt. Just add little salt water manually to top off and turn off ato till at desired levels. Make the saltwater you top off with the 1.026 since that's the end goals.

I'd have absolutely zero concerns FWIW. I've had my salinity fluctuate between 1.024 and 1.026 more times than I can count and never had an issue.

I have a 100g sump and if my salt is off I just move my ato sensor up or down a little. Then when it's leveled out I either add matching SW to raise the water or do a small water change to bring it back down and move the sensor back.

That is horrible advice tank stability should achevable with ato to keep salinity stable. You also let your dog stay in a hot car wail you go shopping?

Did I say tank stability wasn't important?? Please show me where.

I said that over the last 20+ years I've had times where my salinity dropped from 1.025/1.026 down to 1.024 and I brought it back up and never had an issue.

I don't let it fluctuate like that on a daily basis.

Now as when you add it to the existing 1.024, in essence you are at 1.025 which is ideal

Yeah not on a regular basis. When you've had countless tanks over about 23 years #$&@ happens and atos fail. Water gets dumped in and salinity drops. Never had an issue bringing it right back.

If it's not caught right away and the salinity dropped to 1.02 or lower and had been there for a day or more I'd bring it up more slowly.

I’ve had it fluctuate on tanks as well that I had top off issues and a couple points does not hurt anything. Stability is key but things can occasionally fluctuate without negative effects.
