I read somewhere that a QT with a lower specific gravity makes sense for quarantine of marine fish. It kind of makes sense to me, rather than subjecting fish with no symptoms to broad spec treatments. IF something does show up you can then tx appropriately. Does anyone use this for their QT? I understand it will require much longer acclimation, but that's not a real big deal if it saves exposing the organism(s) to unwarranted medication. JMO.

I QT at 1.009. I take a couple days to drop it down then keep it there for 4 weeks. If everything looks good I slowly raise it over about 2 weeks until it matches the DT. I usually watch the fish for another week before moving it. This only prevents the introduction of ich to the DT, not other parasites.

QT @ 1.009 for 30 days makes sense if you are prophylactically treating for ich via hyposalinity/osmotic shock. Other than that, the only reason to QT in low SG is to provide more O2 transport to the gills. Say, if you are battling worms or parasites in the gills. Lowering the temp accomplishes this as well.
