So I have this monster candy cane colony. They started as 2 heads 2 ish years ago. I’ve found that the smaller heads beneath the large mass of the colony are losing tissue and receding. It’s really only like 2-3 heads. And they don’t get any light because of the sheer mass of the colony. Is this normal when these grow out like this? All my big heads are still splitting and growing like wildfire. White light and blue light pics attached.

You got it….. the smaller heads which as you know are lacking light and flow and are receding. I turned mine gmfor a few days to give them that and returned to normal position

See I can’t turn these. There’s 100+ heads shading 3 that are pointing literally straight down. Lol.

Mine has about that many. You may have to cut their branch and frag it

Could I do it with bone cutters? I don’t have a coral saw and the hewds that are dying point directly down into the tank floor.
Bone cutters Yes

possibly ,I prefer just a hacksaw blade ,safer than snipping ,more precise ...

Any issues with putting metal in tank? I would think not but thought I’d ask. I want to cut a large pocillapora colony out of my tank. The trunk is about 3” and I think I could get a small hacksaw blade in if that would work.
