Does anyone have good method to lower mag? My mag is over 1500. I have been doing 20 percent water change with instant ocean salt and it won't come down.

I use instant ocean, and my mag is always in the high range. Water changes is what is keeping it there. According to what is supposed to be in the salt freshly mixed it is labeled 1200, but mine has always been 1500-1600. Even after going 3 weeks without a water change it will be around 1400.

Is ther a reason you want to lower it? Many people try to keep their Mg that high

Have you checked it with two separate test kits to see if your test kit is off? If you have any coral, that should drop on it's own. If you don't have coral, it doesn't really matter if it's high. In 18 years, I've never had this problem. Whenever I would get a high reading I would just skip a dose or two and it always comes down.

I would like mine back down to a reasonable level, testing out at 1800ppm via Elos kit. This is following using the Tech M treatment in hopes of erasing some algae issues. If I could get mine down into the 1500 range I would be happy. Lost a few inverts due to the elevated Mg level though, want to reduce further loss is all.

A couple of people have told me 1400 will help keep my kh and ph stable. My ph stays at 7.6ish. Tried everything, won't come up. I give up on ph.sounds like 1500 mag is ok. Thanks all.

Hey I was having the same issues all summer! Drove me bananas! but I found out you need fresh oxygen in the room! I realized that while I was running my AC night and day during the summer all the windows and doors were shut so no oxygen would flow. Try that or leave the cabinet door open at night to let air into your sump. As for the may issues, I would skip a water change or two like these guys said. See how that goes. Trial and error in this hobby.... it never ends. So sad.
