Hey guys

Tried looking for an answer but couldnt unfortunately, might be thinking to much into it lol

Ive checked my salinity of my 300l (80 gallon) tank, which is still in the cycling process
It was 1.028

Now i know i need to add rodi water but how much do i add at a time ?

And after i do add the rodi to bring it down, how long after should i recheck the salinity ? Does it take a day to mix through or can i check it after 15 minutes
Thanks guys

You can safely lower to 1.026 oor whatever you would like. I would try maybe a liter of water, wait a few minutes, then check it. The water salinity just needs to average out which doesn't take much time.

Thanks, the lfs told me to wait 24 hours
Ive add 2 litres and its still the same so i added another 2 and its still the same lol
In saying that, it has had quite abit of evaporation
I can see it in the sump
I will wait untill tomorrow morning and see what happens

Thanks again

Adding 1 liter at a time to a 300L tank will be hard to detect in salinity changes. I use the following site when calculating the salinity changes.

Don't do it all at once, but it will give you an idea of the amounts needed.

BTW, the liters are in addition to keeping up with evaporation, right? I lose 3-5 liters per day on my 350L tank every day due to evaporation.

Thank man, yeh i lost about an inch in the sump
Why cant i add it all at once if the tank is still cycling and theres no inhabitants ? Just curious

They would be wrong, if the reason to wait involves measurement. Imagine you added food coloring. As soon as the system is a single color/shade, you can measure salinity.

In a sumpless tank that may be 5-10 minutes. In an extended systems of sumps and refugia that might be hours.

Not 24 h. ;)
