Muretic acid. Should be able to search on here for the equation. Will need lots of air exchange before using.

In a mixing bucket, but not in the display the Alk can be lowered using a few drops of muriatic acid (comes in 2 gallon -life time supply box at local HD/Lowes) It is also useful for cleaning (descaling) pumps, BUT only in a non-living situation!

I’m kind of scared to try this. Would dropping the Alk down that fast hurt anything?

I’ve also seen a huge rise in my calcium. Nothing else added or changed. Just weekly water changes.

I’ve got to get new salt. There’s no saltwater store within 2 hours. Gonna have to buy online.

You only mix it in saltwater that’s not in your aquarium. Use it for water changes. Do not add to the tank. It drops the ph so after adding you need to wait a few days before doing a water change. But I add it to my instant ocean and it drops from 9.8 to 7.8. I add 14 ml per 25 gallons.

I have a 55gallon tank and a ten gallon sump/overflow tank (maybe that’s what it is called At this point?)

I just got a trident and Alk was too high to read
Ca: has been raising also 5 days ago (day before water change) 475, tues 493, today 536!
Mag: 1265, 1333, today 1322
Alk by my API test was also off the chart taking 18 drops.
pH has been pretty steady 8.2-8.25
Hydrometer read 1.024

I have a moderate stock I’d say, 15 animals, a few tiny/small corals I was testing out- prior to figuring out my Alk problem.

Are you using just your trident test result to determine it's high, or did you test with another kit to cross check. Are any corals dieing or look stressed?

I was waiting to get my levels down and stable before I started dosing with the trident. I have added marine stabilizer and coral accelerator with water changes but since I started adding a few corals I haven’t added anything because of the high Alk levels.

yes I just got a few tiny corals and some are bleaching/distressed looking.

I used API test to cross check
