What is the lowest salinity where live rock will remain “liveâ€. Only concerned about the denitrifying bacteria.

I looked all over Google and the responses are all over the place from 1.023-1.008. Wanted to see if I can reach out to the experts here. Thanks!

Sorta depends on how long you're planning to store it. What is the purpose? I ask because the answer depends if you're trying to get rid of an illness or for storage or whatever. As a general rule I'd get uncomfortable with anything below 1.013.

This is a good question. When i first set up my tank i bought all my LR and saltwater from the LFS the same day. Well after setting it up i tested the salinity. Well guess what...come to find out Someone at the LFS didnt put any salt in the water and they basically sold me freshwater. I guess there were traces of salt in the tank from the mixes before so it wasnt completely fresh but it was VERY low. The rock sat in that water for two days before i was able to test it because i hadn't got a hydrometer yet. Guess it was a hard lesson learned. Anyway i dont think it hurt anything because i still have alot of pods, brisle worms, feather dusters, and even a small starfish :)

You can keep it under any number of SG levels, but the bacteria changes the lower you go. Under 1.017 and it changes, and under 1.009 from undre Brackish again it will change bacteria.
