I've had this frag a few months now I was told it was a Favia but I've never seen one grow like this I had it lower in the tank on and near the bottom about two weeks ago I moved it to the middle of the tank the par level here is probably about 130-140 according to my LED lights specs an it is doing great. I was just wondering if it is actually a Favia we all know how the LFS can be with small unlabled frags.

Looks to be merulina coral.
Thank you, I had a good feeling it was an SPS I almost posted it there instead of here in LPS. I was thinking it was an encrusting Monti of some sort personally once I moved it up to a higher light level it has really taken off an expanded polyps even seems to be acrually growing. I did a quick google search an found Merulina ampliata an after looking at some images I'd have to agree more maze like than a "mouthed" favia I have a couple favites and this sure didn't look like something in the Favia clade.

Your welcome. Its an intersting looking coral when it gets size to it.
I moved it up about two weeks ago an it is already growing I have am awsome LFS but some of the people that work there "know" a lot more than they actually do, some of the younger kids are knowledgeable but sometimes I think to myself I've been keeping tanks for 40 years and doing reefs longer than they've been alive lol I bought this frag yesterday as a "Turbinaria" but I can't find anything on a red turbinaria lol

Looks like a turbinara. They can range from a purple to a reddish tan. You have a nice tank. That's funny, kids...lol

We have a 2.5 year old ourselves. She's got a little betta tank. Lol

Very cool, thanks for sharing. We've got our daughter naming off corals already, lol. My wife goes over the names with her and it's nice to see her take an intrest.
No problem I'll link the build thread here hope I get some extra time this week. Her mom is the first woman that has had an intrest in my hobby, Ella can point out the hammer and the octo-frogspawn Zoas and mushroom she had an awesome little reef going an it crashed we tested did everything but check the thermometer smh such a N00B error.
These are from the one that crashed.

One of many mistakes my friend. That was a very cool tank. I'm hoping in the future we'll have a few tanks for all the family, our son will be here soon in july. We love reefing and saltwater fish, it brings the family together in our home.

Oh I love them to death lol they have an awesome staff Tom has ownwd the place 25 years now an I've shopped there on an off 20 years now I'm a regular so the hook me up pretty good. They still do punch cards every $100 you get $10 once the card is punched half the time they're like keep it Mike I took 15% off for you, or they'll punch the last 10-15 bucks and be like you want to use this now? Some are just more knowledgeable with freshwater some have only ever done salt but one of Tom's requirements is yoy have to be an aquarisist to get a job there so that's a plus. I was about 22 when I had my first aquarium store job.

Thank you! Our oldest is going to be 16 in October. She's a really good singer, big time in chorus. It amazes me how the little ones are so smart. I've been a drum player my whole life, hoping to teach the kids one day. @Lovemyreef2015 maybe a new drumset is in the future;)
